Feb. 14, 2006
USC junior transfer Patty Cardenas made a splash at her first Stanford Invitational with seven goals, including a four-goal outburst in the championship game. Cardenas, a driver, almost single-handedly snapped UCLA's 39-game winning streak with her four goals in the tournament championship game, helping the No. 2 Trojans to a 10-8 win over the top-ranked Bruins in the title match.
For her efforts at the Stanford Invitational, Cardenas was named MPSF Mikasa Player of the Week -- her first such honor and USC's first of the season. Cardenas is a junior transfer from Golden West who hails from Bell Gardens, Calif., and Bell Gardens HS. She is USC's third leading scorer so far this season with 10 goals, having helped the Trojans to a 6-0 start to the 2006 season.
The Trojans next travel to face California at 6 p.m. on Friday (Feb. 17) and Pacific at noon on Saturday (Feb. 18).
