Iowa City, IA (UWIRE) -- More than three months after the resignation of Cindy Fredrick, Iowa Athletics Director Gary Barta named Sharon Dingman as the new Iowa volleyball head coach on March 21.

Dingman compiled a 147-98 record in seven years as head coach of Illinois State, directing the Redbirds to an at-large bid to the 2007 NCAA Tournament.

With a resume that includes head coaching stints at Butler and Auburn, Dingman owns a 336-212 record in her 17-year career, leading the Bulldogs to the NCAA Tournament in 1997.

Overall, the new Hawkeye head coach has led her team to an average of more than 19 wins per season, while taking four teams to postseason play.

Dingman replaces Fredrick, who resigned on Dec. 18 after a 9-22 campaign in 2007, including a 1-19 mark in conference play. Fredrick finished with a 46-82 overall record in her four years as Hawkeye head coach, just 9-71 in Big Ten play.
