Bucknell Volleyball's Shannon Pitsch and Kaitlin Segal Earn All-League Honors

Bison Duo Named Second Team All-Patriot League

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell senior Shannon Pitsch (Oak Brook, Ill./Fenwick) and sophomore Kaitlin Segal (Pacific Palisades, Calif/Harvard-Westlake) were named Second Team All-Patriot League volleyball selections on Tuesday, Nov. 18. It is the first all-league selection for both Pitsch and Segal, who helped lead the Bison (13-17, 8-6 PL) to a berth as the No. 4 seed in the Patriot League Tournament. Bucknell will face top-seed American (22-8, 13-1 PL) on Friday, Nov. 21, at 6 p.m., in Washington, D.C.

Pitsch and Segal are two of four Bison to have started all 30 of the team's matches and play in each of the team's 101 sets. Pitsch ranks fifth in the Patriot League is assists this season, averaging 7.42 per set, while Segal's 3.31 kills per set places her third in the league. Segal is also seventh in the league in service aces, averaging 0.40 per set. Against only Patriot League opponents, Segal places third in kills (3.60/s) and eighth in aces (0.38/s) and digs (2.76/s), while Pitsch is third in assists (9.49/s).

An all-league selection was one of the few honors missing from Pitsch's trophy case, as she has established herself as one of the top volleyball players in Bison history. A two-time team co-captain, she holds the University record for career assists with 3,580, a total that also ranks seventh in Patriot League history. Her 136 career service aces place her third in the Bison record books. In 2006, Pitsch recorded 1,199 assists, a single-season Bucknell record and was a member of the Patriot League All-Tournament Team. In her four-year career, Pitsch has appeared in 419 of the Bison's 429 sets.

Pitsch, a double major in history and English, has also excelled in the classroom. A Dean's List student at Bucknell, Pitsch has is a three-time Patriot League Academic Honor Roll selection, and earlier this month she was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II First Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Pitsch is now eligible for Academic All-America honors. In 2007, Pitsch was selected to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II Second Team.

In just two years, Segal has established herself as one of the best outside hitters in the Patriot League. She leads the Bison in kills, digs (2.47/s) and aces this season, and through not quite two full seasons has already accumulated 528 kills, 443 digs, 73 aces and 60 total blocks. She has a career hitting percentage of .183, and has started 51 of her 59 career matches. As Bucknell's primary offensive weapon, Segal has recorded 868 attacks this season, 296 more than her closest teammate. She is the first Bucknell sophomore to be honored as an All-Patriot League choice since Shannon Walker in 1999.
