CHAPEL HILL --- The University of North Carolina volleyball team wraps up the first half of its Atlantic Coast Conference schedule with matches against Maryland and Boston College this weekend. Friday night's matchup at Maryland will be a battle for the top spot in the league. The Terrapins currently sit at 18-1, 9-1 in the ACC, while the Tar Heels are 13-6, 8-1 in league play and just a half game behind the Terps in the standings. BC is 6-13, 1-9 in the ACC.

Milestones for Nyenhuis: With 20 kills against Wake Forest on Sept. 30, Dani Nyenhuis reached the 1,000 career kill plateau. The St. Charles, Ill., senior also has another mark in her sights. Nyenhuis is just 40 digs away from 1,000 in that category as well.

Tar Heels in the Regional Rankings: Carolina currently sits third in the East Region according to the RichKern.com/AVCA Regional Rankings. The top five teams in the region are all ACC schools, as Maryland leads the way ahead of Duke, UNC, Georgia Tech and Miami. Carolina, with an overall national ranking of 52, has a record of 8-1 against the top 15 teams in the East, with wins over Georgia Tech, Clemson, Miami, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, Coastal Carolina and William & Mary.

Last Time Against Maryland: The Tar Heels and Terrapins last met in November of 2004 with an NCAA Tournament bid on the line. After each team had made a Cinderella run to the ACC final - the teams were seeded fifth and seventh, respectively - Maryland used a dominating block to win in three games and defend its ACC crown. It marked the final ACC Tournament in volleyball, as the league has eliminated it starting in 2005. Historically, UNC owns a 31-15 advantage over Maryland.

First Visit to Chestnut Hill: Sunday's match will mark the first ever meeting between Carolina and Boston College. The Eagles became the ACC's 12th team in 2005, joining Miami and Virginia Tech, who left the Big East following the 2003-04 year.
