WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL FALLS TO NO. 20 ARIZONA, NORTH CAROLINA

KINGSTON, R.I. - The University of Rhode Island women's volleyball team fell to North Carolina, 3-0 (30-25, 30-24, 30-23) and No. 20 Arizona, 3-0 (30-23, 30-21, 30-24), on the first day of the Rhode Island Women's Volleyball Classic in Keaney Gymnasium. In the day's other action, Connecticut also fell, 3-0 to Arizona (30-27, 30-22, 30-12) and, 3-1, to North Carolina (30-28, 32-30, 24-30, 30-23).

Against North Carolina, junior setter Lindsay St. John led the way with nine kills and 17 assists, while junior outside hitter Inga Schlecht was credited with seven kills and 12 assists for the Rams.

In the day's final match, Arizona defeated URI despite seven kills and a .462 hitting percentage from freshman outside hitter Jillian Bekke.

The tournament will resume on Saturday at 12:00 p.m with North Carolina taking on Arizona, followed by URI facing Connecticut at 3:00 p.m.
