UNC-Asheville (3-2) 23 30 30 30

Memphis got off to a 1-0 lead, but finished the match hitting just .139 to fall to UNC-Asheville 3-1 in the opening contest of the Mercer Bear Brawl. The loss snaps the Tigers' four-match win streak.

Along with poor play, errors doomed Memphis in the match. The Tigers finished with 36 attack errors, 17 service errors and six reception miscues.

Melissa Nance was the bright spot for the Tigers, who played come-from-behind ball for the majority of the match. The junior downed a match-high 16 kills and added nine total blocks. Nancy Nellans and Shelby Burton also finished with double figures in the kill department, with 11 and 10 respectively.

Memphis held the Bulldogs to a .164 attack percentage and made 13 total blocks, but in the end the mistakes proved to be too much to overcome.

The Tigers will hit the court again at 3 p.m. when they face Florida International.
