SAINTS PLACE 6TH AT ENDICOTT INVITATIONAL

The Emmanuel College Women's Volleyball team opened up the 2008 season at the Endicott College Invitational Tournament. The Saints went 1-2 on the weekend, defeating Bridgewater State College, and falling to host Endicott College and to Keene State College, while placing 6th overall. Sophomore Megan Clary (Cumberland, RI) was an Honorable Mention pick to the All-Tournament Team.

Beverly, Mass. - The Emmanuel College Women's Volleyball team opened up the 2008 season at the Endicott College Invitational Tournament. The Saints went 1-2 on the weekend, defeating Bridgewater State College, and falling to host Endicott College and to Keene State College, while placing 6th overall. Sophomore Megan Clary (Cumberland, RI) was an Honorable Mention pick to the All-Tournament Team.

Endicott defeated Emmanuel in three sets in the opening match, 13-25, 15-25, 22-25. Rookie outside hitter Jenna Ross (Centerburg, OH) and senior outside hitter Lindsey Parker (New Bedford, MA) combined for 13 kills. Freshman setter Kathryne Olsen (Fairhaven, MA) dished out 17 assists, while senior libero Amanda Machado (Swansea, MA) tallied 19 digs in the effort.

The Saints took on Bridgewater State College on Saturday morning. The Saints got down early, falling in the opening sets, 23-25 and 22-25, but came back to defeat the Bears in the final thee sets, 25-21, 25-16, 15-10. Parker led the way for Emmanuel with 12 kills in 36 total attempts. Ross and freshman middle Rebecca Stanton (Quincy, MA) combined for 15 kills and 5 blocks. Junior middle Nicole McAllister (Hampden, ME) added 6 kills and 4 blocks, while Olsen dished out her match-high 28 assists. Sophomore Megan Clary (Cumberland, RI) subbed in at the libero slot and recorded a career-high 23 digs in the win.

Later in the afternoon, the Saints were defeated in the their third match of the tournament, by Keene State College, 18-25, 18-25, 14-25. Parker notched 11 kills in 24 attempts and Ross added 5 kills and 5 digs. Olsen dished out 22 assists and Clary came away with 8 digs in the effort.

Clary was an Honorable Mention All-Tournament Team pick after averaging 3.67 digs and .44 aces per set. The 1-2 Saints will travel to Providence, RI on Tuesday night (9/9) to take on the 1-3 Anchorwomen of Rhode Island College in a 6pm start. Emmanuel's home opener is next Tuesday night (9/16) vs. Eastern Nazarene College at 7pm.
