Volleyball Announces Plans To Travel To China in 2008

Greeley, COLO. -- University of Northern Colorado volleyball head coach Lyndsey Benson recently announced plans for the volleyball team to travel to China in May, 2008. The tour is on the docket for May 12-23 and family and friends of Northern Colorado are welcome to join the team in their travels.

 

"This is a wonderful opportunity for Northern Colorado volleyball," said Benson. "It will be the first overseas trip in school history for the team and we are looking forward to experiencing international volleyball. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for most involved with the team and we are grateful for all the support we have received in planning a trip of this magnitude."

 

Sponsorship opportunities for those who are not able to travel with the team, but will still like to help fund the trip for the Bears are also available. Please contact assistant coach Jenny Glenn at 970.351.2180 if you are interested in assisting the team.

 

For those interested in traveling with the team, please fill out the attached form and return to TranSports Athletic Team Tours or call Dale at 877-754-8726 for more information. The cost of the trip is just $3,190 based on double occupancy. The cost is per passenger and is subject to change based on availability, supplier costing and variance in passenger numbers. Included in that cost is round-trip air from United States, English speaking local guides, hotel accommodations, private coach, three meals a day, all tours and entrance fees as stated and the services of TranSports staff throughout.

 

The tentative itinerary for the team follows:

 

May 12

Leave home city for Beijing, China.

 

May 13

Arrive Beijing International Airport. You will be met by your local guide and see part a great deal of Beijing on your way to the Jian Guo Garden Hotel in the heart of downtown Beijing. Remainder of day at leisure.

 

May 14

Tour the Forbidden City, home of the former Emperors of China, Tiananmen Square, and the Summer Palace. Visit Chairman Mao's Tomb.

 

May 15

Today will be one of the highlights of the trip as you visit and climb the Great Wall of China and the Ming Tombs, with a visit to a cloisonné workshop along the way. Stop at Walkway of Spirits.

 

May 16 Morning game.

This afternoon, tour the Hutong District by pedicab and visit the Temple of Heaven. Spend some time visiting Silk Alley. Tonight, you will be able to experience a traditional Peking duck dinner.

 

May 17 Morning game.

This afternoon, visit Dashala and Liulichang, the restored old Quing Dynasty quarters and the busy street of Beijing near Qianmen Gate.

 

May 18

The day is yours to explore this fabulous city. You may want to go back to one of the sites you have already visited or explore some new areas. (Breakfast only)

 

May 19

Transfer to airport this morning for your flight to Shanghai. Transfer to the Holiday Inn Great Wall Hotel. This afternoon,

take a tour of the Old City and the Yuyuan Gardens and take some time this afternoon to stroll along the Bund, the most famous street in Shanghai.

 

May 20 Morning game.

Visit the Pudong area and go to the top of the TV tower where you will get a breathtaking view of the whole of Shanghai. Continue on to the Museum of the People's Square. Afternoon free.

 

May 21 Morning game.

Afternoon visit to the Jade Buddha Temple.

 

May 22

This is a day to explore on your own. It will be your final day for shopping and sightseeing. (Breakfast only)

 

May 23

After breakfast, transfer to the Shanghai Airport for your flight home.

 

The Northern Colorado volleyball team reports for fall camp on Aug. 8 and opens the 2007 with an alumni match on Aug. 18 at 7:00 p.m.
