Jayhawks Raise Over $4,000 For Susan G. Komen Cancer Foundation

LAWRENCE, Kan. -

The University of Kansas volleyball team wrapped up its second annual "Dig For the Cure" campaign with a check for $4,060 to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Three members of the 2007 squad - Natalie Uhart, Katie Martincich and Melissa Townsend -- were on hand at the KU-Loyola men's basketball game to present the check along with KU softball players Amanda Jobe and Liz Kocon.

The Jayhawks collected pledges for digs throughout the month of October - National Breast Cancer Awareness Month - and totaled 81 digs in its "Dig For the Cure" match on Nov. 3. The volleyball team collected over $4,000, while the Kansas softball team raised an additional $5,400 from their own tournament benefiting the Susan G. Komen Foundation, to bring their total to more than $9,000.

The "Dig for the Cure" campaign came into existence in 2003 and was started by UNC-Charlotte head coach Lisa Marston and has had participation from volleyball programs all across the country.
