BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The UAB women's tennis program has released its 2009 spring schedule, which includes 20 dual matches and two tournaments.
"I am really excited about our spring schedule," first-year UAB head coach Krissy Hall said. "This schedule allows for some great opportunities for our program both in and out of conference. We are looking forward to getting the spring season started and seeing the results from all our hard work in the fall."
The Blazers kick off the season with a pair of in-state tournaments, playing Jan. 16-18 in the Auburn Winter Invitational and Jan. 24-25 at the Samford Winter Invitational.
UAB then plays its first dual match of the season Feb. 8 against Memphis in a contest that will be played at Samford. The Memphis match is the first of three Conference USA contests for the Blazers, who also play against Southern Miss in Northridge, Calif. (March 8) and at UTEP (April 4).
The Southern Miss contest kicks off a three-match California swing that will also see UAB face UC Santa Barbara (March 10) and Cal State Northridge (March 11).
The Blazers' spring season features a slate of seven home matches, starting with the home opener Feb. 16 against in-state foe Jacksonville State. UAB will also play home matches against North Florida (Feb. 20), Chattanooga (Feb. 28), Mercer (March 3), UT Martin (March 14) and Murray State (March 15).
UAB will close its regular season with six consecutive matches away from home, starting March 20 at Arkansas State and concluding April 10 at Middle Tennessee. The Blazers will then head to the Conference USA Championships April 16-19 in Houston, Texas.
