Tulsa Tennis Teams Featured Prominently in Preseason Rankings

Arnau Brugues ranked No. 6 the nation in men's singles, Alexandra Kichoutkin 82nd in women's singles poll

Senior Arnau Brugues is ranked No. 6 in the nation in the ITA Preseason Men's Singles Poll

Tulsa, Oklahoma - - Five Tulsa tennis student-athletes earned individual preseason rankings as announced by the Intercollegiate Tennis (ITA). Senior Arnau Brugues claimed the No. 6 spot in the men's singles poll after capturing his third-consecutive All-America and Conference USA Men's Tennis Player of the Year honors last season. Brugues was the highest ranked C-USA player in either poll.

Sophomore Victor Kolik came in at No. 59 in the men's singles poll after being named C-USA Freshman of the Year and first-team all-conference in 2008. Senior Ross Cunningham is ranked 21st in the nation in doubles alongside Kolik, and junior transfer Phil Stephens earned a No. 44 ranking with Brugues in men's doubles poll as well.

On the women's side, sophomore Alexandra Kichoutkin is ranked No. 82 in the initial women's singles poll after winning the C-USA Freshman of the Year award last season.

Both the men's and women's tennis teams begin play this weekend with the men headed to Houston, Texas, to participate in the Rice Invitational, and the women traveling to Fayetteville, Ark., to play in the Arkansas Invite.

Both of the tournaments start on Friday, Sept. 12 and concluded on Sunday, Sept. 14.
