OXFORD, Ohio--In its final regular-season match, Miami University's women's tennis team pounded out a dominant 7-0 win against Northern Illinois University on Friday afternoon at the Hepburn Varsity Tennis Courts on Miami's campus.
The RedHawks--who recorded their eighth 7-0 win of the season, the most by a Miami team since going to seven-point scoring--finished the regular season with a 13-6 overall record and a 7-1 Mid-American Conference mark. The Huskies dropped to 3-12 on the season and 1-6 in league play.
Miami quickly took a 1-0 lead in the match, sweeping through doubles play in approximately 30 minutes, with all three doubles tandems winning by 8-1 margins. Freshmen Megan Martzolf and Cara Wald downed NIU's Nao Umemura and Brooke Forsberg at No. 1 doubles, senior Leda Pesatova and freshman Sydnee Bridger picked up the win at No. 2 doubles against NIU's Lillian Asuaje and Kathryn Friedlund, while senior Kelly Douple and sophomore Brintney Larson defeated NIU's Jenny Edner and Dora Delgadillo at No. 3 doubles.
The RedHawks also quickly moved through singles play, winning at all flights in straight sets. Larson dominated NIU's Umemura at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-0. In the second flight, Pesatova topped NIU's Asuage 6-3, 6-2. Martzolf pounded out 6-1, 6-2 wins at No. 3 singles.
With a 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 4 singles against NIU's Forseberg, Douple remained undefeated in Mid-American Conference play, amassing an 8-0 league record on the season. In her first match back after being sidelined with injury since Miami's first MAC match at Ball State on March 22, Wald showed no sign of lapse with impressive 6-1, 6-0 wins at No. 5 singles over NIU's Edner.

Senior Victoria Pulido rounded things out in the sixth flight, defeating NIU's Delgadillo, 6-2, 6-4.
Miami honored its three seniors--Douple, Pesatova and Pulido--before the match. With weather conditions finally cooperating--providing a warm, sunny day--the senior trio was able to play their last regular-season match on Miami's home outdoor courts, the only time the RedHawks have been able to play on the outdoor courts this season.
Miami is off until the Mid-American Conference Championships April 24-27 in Buffalo, N.Y.
