Women's Tennis Wins Fourth Straight

Spokane, Wash. - The Gonzaga University women's tennis team won its fourth straight match Saturday as the Bulldogs defeated Lewis-Clark State College 7-0 at the Spokane Racquet Club.

The victory improves the Bulldogs to 8-11 on the season, while the Warriors slip to 10-10.

The Bulldogs jumped out to a strong start, taking all three doubles contests. Erin Humphrey and Courtney Lau go the Zags off on the right foot with an 8-0 victory at No. 3 over Kaylan Crane and Chelsea Gay. Rika Mehndiratta and Danielle Farmer secured the doubles point with an 8-3 win over Mei Fong and Alyson Peck at No. 2. Emily Anderson and Aglaya Kokurina capped doubles play with an 8-2 victory over Megan Smedley and Jaime Chan, 8-2 at No. 1.

In singles play, Gonzaga continued its strong play, sweeping all six contests. At No. 1, Kokurina defeated Chan in straight sets 6-1, 6-4, while Anderson earned a 6-1, 6-1 win over Crane at No. 2. Playing No. 3, Kristen MacWilliam downed Peck 6-2, 6-1, as Lau defeated Smedley in three-sets, 6-0, 1-6, 6-4 at No. 4. Humphrey earned a 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (7) victory at No. 5 over Fong, while Carrie Schofield rounded out action with a 6-1, 6-7 (7) 1-0 (6) victory at No. 6

The Bulldogs will return to the courts Thursday when they travel to Cheney to face Eastern Washington University.
