KINGSTON, R.I. - The Rhode Island women's team defeated Fordham, 6-1, in their first home match of the spring season. Rhody won five-of six singles matches and took two-of-three in doubles.
Nyssa Peele and Grace Hedstrom paired up for an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles while Amanda Barletta and Kristen Liu posted an 8-1 victory at the third spot to earn Rhody the doubles point.
In singles, Christen Cadigan won the third-set tiebreaker to defeat Catherine Kellner at No. 2 while Hedstrom, Barletta, Valerie Chacon and Liu turned in straight-set wins at the third thru sixth positions, respectively.
With the win, URI improves to 11-5 (3-0 vs. Atlantic 10 teams). The Rams are back in action at Fairfield on April 3.
