LARAMIE, Wyo. -

The University of Wyoming Cowgirl tennis team closed out the weekend with a 6-1 win over the Portland Pilots, on Saturday morning, in Portland. The Cowgirls move to 5-3 overall, while the Pilots drop to 2-5 overall.

In doubles action, Wyoming took two out of three matches to earn the doubles point led by Patricia Chien and Karolina Rowinski who defeated Cristin Sammis and Alyson Tyson, 8-4. The number three team of Andrea House and Gwen Moser also won 8-4 over Christina Feyen and Jackie Soltysik, while Corina Lazar and Amy Senko came up short in their match against Sanja Indic and Lindsey Griffin.

In singles action, the Cowgirls took five of six matches to dominate the match. At the number one spot, Patricia Chien earned a tough three set win, 6-4, 1-6, 6-2, over Cristin Sammis, while Karolina Rowinski won easily, 6-4, 6-2, against Sanja Indic. Freshman Corina Lazar took her match in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3, against Jacki Soltysik, as did Amy Senko, 6-1, 6-2, over Alyson Tyson at the number four position. UW closed out the match as Gwen Moser pulled out the 7-6 (2), 6-3 win over Lindsey Griffin. The only Cowgirl to fall on the day was Andrea House, 6-0, 7-6, against Christina Feyen.

Wyoming will resume play on Sunday, March 13 against Rollins College as they begin a four match stretch in Florida.
