MEMPHIS - The University of Memphis head softball coach Windy Thees announced on Tuesday that infielder Cheyenne Mascarenas has signed a National Letter of Intent. The Garden Grove, Calif., native becomes the Tigers' third signee for the 2009-10 recruiting class.
A three-year letterwinner at Pacifica High School coached by Kevin M. Cody, Mascarenas enters her senior season with a .364 career batting average and nine home runs. Mascarenas hit .666 in the CIF finals.
Her club teams have placed seventh or better in all four appearances at the ASA Nationals. Mascarenas played travel ball in 2008 and 2006 with the So Cal Athletics. The club team finished fifth in the 2008 ASA Nationals and seventh in 2006. As a member of the Victory Gold in 2007, the team finished as the state champions and seventh at ASA Nationals. Mascarenas also played travel ball with Magic 32 (2005), So Cal Hurricanes (2005) and Young Guns (2004).
Mascarenas is the daughter of Russell and Cathy Mascarenas. She is the cousin of Toni Mascarenas, a former USA National Team member and three-time All-American at the University of Arizona.
