CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO. – (Tuesday, November 18, 2008) – Redhawks softball Head Coach Lana Richmond has announced the signing of Marisa Sanders for the 2009-2010 season. Sanders, a senior at St. Clair High School in St. Clair, MO, is the only signee thus far for the Redhawks softball team for the 2009-2010 season.

In her high school career, she has achieved All-Conference, All-District, and All-State honors at St. Clair High School. Marisa has 22 career home runs and was named her team’s Most Valuable Hitter all four years at St. Clair High School. This past fall as a senior, she batted .625 with 34 runs batted in.

Sanders is a member of the St. Louis Outburst summer league softball team. Sanders, a two sport star at St. Clair High School, was an All-District, All-Conference and All-Sectional shot putter for her high school track & field team.

“Marisa has played a variety of infield positions, but we look for her to be a first baseman for the Redhawks,” says Coach Richmond. “She has established herself as a power hitter and has very quick hands. She has the opportunity to come in and contribute for us offensively. We have had nothing but the best from St. Clair products in Amy Evers (record holder for games played) and Jenny Oermann (holds numerous records) and we expect her to continue this tradition from St. Clair.”
