The Quinnipiac softball team pounded out 22 runs and 28 hits en route to a Northeast Conference doubleheader sweep at St. Francis (N.Y.) on Friday afternoon in Brooklyn, N.Y. The Bobcats took the twinbill, originally scheduled for Saturday but moved due to an impending rain storm, with scores of 9-0 and 13-1 to conclude their regular season conference schedule.
Quinnipiac improved to 12-8 in league play and a 19-25-1 overall.
The Bobcats posted five runs with seven hits in the opening inning of the day and never looked back in two run-ruled shortened contests.
Maria Browne led off the afternoon with a double to left center, stole third and scored when Jill Viglione, the next batter, singled to right. Game one Quinnipiac starter Kim Norman singled with one out and advanced one base with Viglione on a throwing error. Jenna Henry, one of three Bobcat hitters to have a four-hit day, followed with a two-run single to right center to give her team a 3-0 lead. Brandi Simon and Alyssa Mansolf added run-scoring doubles in the first.

In the fourth, Browne continued her monster day with a two-run homer after Kristin Sheriff delivered a double. Browne went 4-for-8, scored five runs with three stolen bases and two RBIs in the two games today.
Norman led off the fifth with a double and eventually scored on a throwing error later in the inning. Simon, who had two hits in the opener, added an RBI single to right that scored Henry.
In the circle, Norman (7-4) was in command. She faced one over the minimum and went the distance in the five-inning affair. Serena Varvas took the loss for the Terriers.
In game two, the Bobcats picked up where they left off.
Norman, who had four hits and four runs scored today, led off the second with a homer. The Bobcats plated two more runs when Sammi Allendorfer smacked her first of three hits in the game to score Carolyn Schmolz, who pinch ran for Sheriff after a leadoff single. Browne, who had reached on an error, scored when Allendorfer stole second.
The Bobcats scored four in the fourth, as Browne, Viglione and Henry all had run-producing hits. Allendorfer and Simon had run-scoring singles in the sixth, while Mansolf and Charron Letarte both had two-RBI doubles.
Quinnipiac's 13 runs marked a single-game season high.
Sheriff tossed a complete-game over six innings, allowing one run on four hits to earn the victory. She struck out four.
Quinnipiac finishes the regular season this Sunday at Massachusetts for a doubleheader that begins at noon in Amherst, Mass.
