May 6, 2005

KINGSTON, R.I. - In game one, the Rams took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when senior Megan Long (Swansea, Mass.) hit a two-out, solo home run to left-center as Rhode Island hosted its last home games of the season.

Minutewoman, Lauren Proctor immediately tied the game in the top of the second when she hit a solo home run to the same exact spot for the 1-1 tie.

The Minutewomen then took a 3-1 lead in the third. Amanda Morin singled with one out and scored one batter later when junior KJ Kelley hit her 11th home run home run to center field.

UMass would add five more runs in the third, but sophomore Alyssa Martino (East Islip, N.Y.) would chip away at the Minutewomen lead when she hit a two-out solo home run down the left-field line in the bottom of the third inning. For Martino, it was her team-high sixth home run of the season.

UMass added to its lead in the fourth improving to a 9-2 advantage and would go on to add three more in the sixth for the 12-2 six inning mercy-rule win.

Ram pitcher Jill Anderson (Cohoes, N.Y.) suffered the loss, while UMass pitcher Barb Lafogg notched the win.

The UMass Minutewomen wasted no time in the second game, as they put three runs on the board off a lead-off single from Morin in the first inning. Kelley walked and with two on and one out, Denise Denis hit a RBI-single for the 1-0 lead. Jenna Busa then hit a single driving in two more runs for UMass.

In the bottom of the first, an error and a walk put the Rams runners at the corners with just out, but to no avail.

Kelley gave UMass a 4-0 lead in the top of the third with a solo home run well over the right-center field fence. It was her second of the day and a team-high 12th of the year. UMass added two more runs later in the inning highlighted by a two-run home run from Busa.

The game stayed 6-0 until the top of the fifth. UMass added three more in the inning and Busa hit a another two-run homer. UMass went on to win, 9-0 in five innings.

Senior pitcher Jamie Hughes (Las Vegas, Nev.) took the loss while Busa earned the win.

The Rams finish the 2005 season with a 8-35 overall record and a 3-11 mark in the Atlantic 10.
