Holy Cross Splits 1-1 With Central Connecticut

Crusaders drop game one 4-2 and win game two 6-2.

West Hartford, Conn. -The Holy Cross softball team traveled to West Hartford Connecticut this afternoon to take on Central Connecticut in a non-conference game. The Crusaders split the day with Connecticut dropping the first game 4-2 and winning the second 6-2 to improve to 8-25 (3-9) while Central Connecticut falls to 12-21 (4-8 NEC).

In game one Central Conn. came out with a four run lead but the Crusaders fought back in the fourth inning with two runs made by Jayme Elliot (Gardenia, Calif.) off of a double by Keeley Seniuk (Phoenix, Ariz.) and the second by Seniuk unearned but it wasn't enough to get the lead as the remainder of the game went scoreless.

On the mound was Natalie Cruz (Manalapan, N.J.) with two strikeouts, five hits, four runs and a walk dropping to 1-11 overall. Closing the game was Erin Fleming (Townsend, Mass.) with one hit and one strikeout.

In game two, the first three innings went scoreless but the Crusaders dominated the fourth inning making six runs. First across the plate was Mandy Correale (Peabody, Mass.) with an RBI by Elliot. Next, with bases loaded, Seniuk hit a homerun to bring home four RBI's as Elliot, Sam Lenhardt (Duxbury, Mass.) and Tiffany Medwid (Imperial, Pa.) all came across the plate. Finally, Felming hit a homerun to bring herself home and give the Crusaders a 6-1 lead after Conn. scored one run. Central Conn. made one more run in the fifth inning but it wasn't enough to catch up to the Crusaders as no more runs were scored in the game.

On mound for game two was Amanda Audette (New Bedford, Mass.) with four hits, one run and two walks improving to 3-7. Katie Alexander (Tigard, Ore.) pitched 2.2 innings with two strikeouts, four hits, one run and three walks. Closing the last piece of the game was Fleming.

The Crusaders play again April 26 at Bucknell. Start time is set for 12:00 p.m.
