Construction is well underway on the new home of Georgia Tech Softball.
April 17, 2008
Construction began earlier this month on the new home of Georgia Tech Softball. Located at the corner of Fowler and 8th streets, the state-of-the-art Georgia Tech Softball Complex will be in the heart of the Tech campus and open in time for the 2009 season.
Ramblinwreck.com will allow fans to track the progress of the facility through photo galleries. Update #1 shows the demolition of the existing parking lot at the site. In the next phase, workers begin to dig out the dirt for where the sunken field will go.
The Georgia Tech Softball Complex will provide fans an amazing view of the Atlanta skyline while catching some of the top collegiate softball teams in the country. With the new facility, the Yellow Jackets will now be able to host the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament as well as an NCAA Tournament regional or super regional.
"We are so excited to be moving into a new stadium next year," head coach Sharon Perkins said. "This is as much for the players now as it is for every student-athlete who has worn the Georgia Tech uniform. With the Atlanta skyline lit up behind the outfield fence, it will be one of the most picturesque stadiums in the nation. We are so grateful to the administration for allowing us to have a premier facility like this and can't wait for our fans to have a chance to see some games in it."

The Georgia Tech Softball Complex will feature a grandstand area stretching from dugout to dugout with a seating capacity of 1,000 that includes chair backs. There will be a plaza area and lower level entry court where fans will enter into that has Georgia Tech logos in the paving. A press box will be located on top of the main grandstand behind home plate that will include booths for radio and television broadcasts. Behind the outfield wall will be flowering trees providing shade for fans to watch the game from and get a different view of the action. It will also be open giving fans a fantastic view of the Atlanta skyline. Teams will enjoy sunken dugouts and there will be terrace areas on top of them.
The Georgia Tech Softball team will move its operations to the adjoining building beyond the left field fence. The team will have locker room space as well as a video room, storage room and more. Indoor batting cages will be located down the left field line and each team will have ample bullpen space.
