Bills' Two-Run Single Lifts Miami Softball over Wright State, 2-0

April 12, 2005

OXFORD, Ohio - A fourth-inning single by freshman Christine Bills (Canal Fulton, Ohio/Northwest) was all the offense the Miami softball team (22-17) needed to defeat Wright State (8-12), 2-0, in the first game of a doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon at Miami Softball Field. Miami starter Jackie Poggendorf (Phoenix, Ariz./Shadow Mountain) threw her fourth complete-game shutout of the year.

Wright State starter Jessica Lander retired the first 10 RedHawks she faced, but Poggendorf ended that string with a fourth-inning single and junior Bianca Paz (Mesilla, N.M./Las Cruces) followed with a walk. After a Leslie Macedo (Livermore, Calif./Livermore) flyout moved both into scoring position, Bills came through with her two-run, two-out single. Lander (4-6) finished with four hits, three strikeouts and a walk while earning both Miami runs.

Poggendorf (12-11) scattered six hits while striking out five and walked one, never allowing a Raider runner to reach third base. The two teams begin the second game of their doubleheader at approximately 5 p.m.
