May Named Ivy League Player of the Week

ITHACA, N.Y. - After a big week where she hit .611 and had five home runs in six games for the Big Red, senior co-captain Lauren May (Commack, N.Y.) has been named the Ivy League Player of the Week it was announced by the league office today.

Over the course of the week, May hit three doubles and five home runs with nine RBI, 11 runs scored, 29 total bases and a slugging percentage of 1.611. In game two of a doubleheader with Penn, May hit three home runs, the last of which ended the game in the sixth inning. It was the second time this week that she ended a game early with a home run. In game two against Canisius, May drilled a solo home run in the sixth to give the Big Red an eight run lead. Her three home runs against Penn tied a school record for long balls in a game.

As a junior, May was named the Ivy League Player of the Year after winning the Ivy League triple crown, leading the league in home runs, RBI and batting average. She was also named the Ivy Rookie of the Year in 2002 following a standout freshman campaign in which she hit 16 home runs, setting the school record for home runs in a season.

Prior to arriving at Cornell, May was a three-sport standout at Commack High School, earning all-county honors in softball, field hockey and basketball. May captained her softball team for three years while leading it to the Suffolk County championships.

May is the daughter of Edward and Irma May and is a student in the College of Arts and Sciences.
