Yamaguchi Leads Hoosiers to 2-1 Win Over UIC at IU Classic
March 23, 2007
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Junior Tory Yamaguchi hit her team-leading eighth home run of the season as the Hoosiers avenged an earlier loss to Illinois-Chicago by topping the Flames 2-1 at the IU Classic on Friday, March 23.
Yamaguchi gave Indiana (14-11) all the offense it would need in the bottom of the first inning. With senior Rachel Terry on first, Yamaguchi smashed UIC starter Chelsea Fuemmeler's 2-2 offering off the foul pole in left for her 29th career home run, giving her sole possession of second place in Indiana's all-time list. The Woodland Hills, Calif., native had been tied with Michelle Venturella (1992-95) for second.
