Long Island finished its second straight 34-win season in 2007 and with the NFCA Mid-Atlantic Coaching Staff of the Year back leading the Blackbirds in 2008, LIU should improve on that mark in 2008. Despite starting only one senior a year ago, LIU won its first NCAA tournament game since 2001, topping Colgate, 5-1, in the first round. With 13 letterwinners back from last season's young team, Long Island looks to equal last season's 16-2 conference record and earn their eighth regular season title. Offensively, junior infielder Celina Castillo will lead the Blackbirds after hitting .364 and punching in 33 RBIs a year ago. In the circle, LIU will rely on junior Jenny Giles to duplicate last year's 20-10 record and 1.84 ERA.
