Mae Shamir To Play In Maccabi Games

Shamir will participate in games from Dec. 26-Jan. 22 in Argentina

CHESTNUT HILL, MA - Boston College women's soccer player Mae Shamir has been selected to join a 900 person delegation to represent the USA at the 11th Pan American Maccabi Games in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The Games will take place December 26, 2007 - January 2, 2008.

Maccabi USA/Sports for Israel will send a Team of 500 people to Maccabi Games, in the Open, Youth, Juniors and Masters categories, joining an estimated 3,000 athletes from more than 20 countries. The USA Delegation will be close to 900 strong, including the athletes.

Shamir is a sophomore from Natick, Massachusetts. She is a two-year member of the women's soccer team at Boston College. This season, Shamir saw her first action in a BC uniform on September 21 in a 3-0 victory over Northeastern. She finished the season with a 2-1 record and earned her first career start against Maryland on Nov. 1. In that game she also earned her first career shutout as the Eagles defeated the Terrapins, 2-0.

Shamir is just one of many representing 32 states that will participate in the competition, which will include the following sports: Baseball, Basketball, Beach Volleyball, Field Hockey, Golf, Gymnastics, Half Marathon, Judo, Soccer, Softball, Squash, Swimming, Tennis, Ten-Pin Bowling, Triathlon, Volleyball and Water Polo. Athletes range in age from 15 to over 75 years in divisions including juniors, Youth, Open, Masters and Grand Masters levels.



Sophomore Mae Shamir will compete in the Maccabi Games from Dec. 26 to Jan. 2 in Argentina.
