TOWSON, Md. -- Rice junior forward Erin Scott has been named a 2008 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America for women's soccer, announced the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Tuesday (Nov. 18).

Scott was named to the Academic All-America Third Team after maintaining a 4.00 grade point average as a psychology major in Rice's accelerated curriculum. The Richardson, Tex., native also had similar success on the soccer field, scoring seven goals and registering six assists for an Owl team that recently concluded its sixth-straight winning season. Scott scored a total of three game-winning goals, led the team in shots (51) and maintained a team-best .588 shots-on-goal percentage.

In addition to Academic All-America honors, Scott's 2008 resume already included First Team All-Conference USA, the C-USA All-Academic Team and First Team Academic All-District VI (for schools located in Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma and New Mexico). Last spring Scott was named a C-USA Academic Medalist.

Scott is Rice's first Academic All-America selection of the 2008-09 school year. She is the first Owl since the start of the women's soccer program under head coach Chris Huston in 2001 to earn the honor. Scott is the only women's soccer player from Conference USA to earn the honor this season, and one of only two student-athletes from Texas schools in the University Division. The full list of ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America honorees is listed below.
