TACOMA, Wash. -
In the end, it came down to one well-placed shot as the Carleton Knights defeated the sixth-ranked Puget Sound Loggers, 1-0, in the second round of the 2008 NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship Tournament on Sunday afternoon on East Athletic Field in Tacoma, Wash.

The teams played tight in the first half as most of the action was played in the middle third of the field.  The Loggers were able to get off five shots and hold the Knights without an attempt but the teams entered halftime with a 0-0 tie.

In the second half, Carleton broke the scoreless draw in the 60th minute when Cassie Burke blasted a shot from the upper-left corner of the penalty box and the ball round the upper-right corner of the net, just past the diving hands of Kallie Wolfer (Sandy, Utah/Skyline).  The Loggers continued to apply the offensive pressure but the Knights' Kate Trenerry made three saves to hold on to the shutout and clinch Carleton's trip to the Sectional round of the tournament.

The Knights will play the winner of Sunday night's game between Claremont-M-S and UC Santa Cruz on Friday at the site to be determined.  The Loggers end their season as the seven-time defending Northwest Conference champions with a record of 18-2-0.
