ERIE, Pa. -- Hosting Mercyhurst College rode a pair of goals by All-America candidate Sarah Powell to a 3-0 victory over The Rock in Sunday's NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional semifinal game.

The loss gave The Rock a 14-7-1 final record and marked the fourth time in as many games this fall that Mercyhurst (14-4-4) got the best of the Green and White.

The 17th-ranked Lakers outshot SRU by a 22-8 margin in Sunday's game. Rock senior goalie Sarah Lacy recorded seven saves, while Mercyhurst netminder Rebecca Heintzman turned aside four shots.

Powell scored what proved to be the game-winning goal at the 44:02 mark when she headed home an assist from Jamie Schroter for the first goal of the game.

Powell's second goal came on a rebound of a deflected shot by Taylor Hilinski at the 52:07 mark.

Jenna Tutolo chipped a shot out of Lacy's reach at 88:34 to conclude the game's scoring.

Sunday's game marked the second straight year that The Rock's season ended in a regional semifinal match. The Rock was in the NCAA playoffs for an unprecedented third straight season and for the fifth time since 2001.

The Rock, which recorded a total of 31 wins in the last two seasons, will now turn its attention to offseason workouts and preparations for the 2009 season. The Green and White will have all but two members of this year's team, senior forward Courtney Hoover and senior defender Shelly Regner, back next fall.

Mercyhurst will now advance to the regionals finals, in which it will meet #14 West Chester, a 3-2 win over #23 East Stroudsburg in the other semifinal match played Sunday.

West Chester and Mercyhurst were seeded first and second, respectively, in the regional tournament. The Rock, which blanked #24-ranked and third-seeded Bloomsburg 4-0 in quarterfinal action last Friday, was the sixth seed in regional competition.
