KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Earning 13 first-place votes, No. 1 Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) is selected as the top team, according to the 11th and final regular season 2008 NAIA Women’s Soccer Coaches’ Top 25 Poll, announced today (Nov. 16). For the seventh straight poll, the Blue Raiders are the best program as they notched 550 total points. LWC is 18-1 heading into the 2008 NAIA Women’s Soccer National Championship Opening Round, scheduled for Nov. 22. The official field and pairings for the Women’s Soccer National Championship Opening Round will be announced by 7 p.m. CST today.

 

LWC is champion of the Mid-South Conference Tournament and holds a 13-game winning streak. During the current streak, the Blue Raiders have out-scored the opposition by an 86-3 margin, which includes 10 shut outs.

 

Lee (Tenn.) remains at No. 2 with a 20-1 record and winners of the Southern States Athletic Conference Tournament Championship. The Flames posted four first-place votes and currently own a 14-game winning streak. Defending national champion Martin Methodist (Tenn.) is No. 3 followed by Concordia (Ore.) at No. 4 and Azusa Pacific (Calif.) at No. 5. The Cavaliers of Concordia grabbed the remaining three first-place nods.

 

No. 23 Indiana Wesleyan is new to the Top 25 this week – IWU won the Mid-Central College Conference Championship by knocking off the top seed. No. 25 Benedictine (Kan.) jumps into the poll after defeating the top two seeds in the Heart of America Athletic Conference Tournament and winning the title.

 

Two programs will enter the National Championship Opening Round with an undefeated record – Concordia (Ore.) and No. 7 Graceland (Iowa).

 

The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences, independents and unaffiliated groups.
