WESTERVILLE, Oh. - Adrienne Novak scored the game's only goal with less than a minute remaining as Otterbein College downed Penn State Altoona 1-0 in the opening round of the NCAA Division III Tournament Saturday afternoon.

The host Cardinals, ranked 16th in the country, out-shot the Lions 14-4 and held a 4-1 advantange in shots on goal.  The deciding tally was assisted by Tara Smith when she found Novak just inside the box for a blast that beat Altoona keeper Lindsay Raspanti (Fairless Hills, PA/Pennsbury).

"This was easily our best performance of the year," noted Lion head coach Tim Wassell, who became the third Penn State Altoona coach to take a team to the NCAA Tournament.  "We battled one of the best teams in the nation and came up just short.  Our girls are obviously disappointed, but I think what we have accomplished this season has been remarkable, and I could not be more proud."

Altoona concluded its record-setting 2008 campaign at 17-1-2 overall.  The squad set completed an undefeated regular season and conference slate for the first time ever and set a new single-season mark for wins.  Freshman Emily Reimold (Shrewsbury, PA/Susquehannock) also notched program season records for goals (19) and points (45).

Raspanti finished with three saves for Altoona.

Otterbein moves on to the second round against the winner of Denison (OH) and Centre (KY).
