The Keuka women’s soccer team enjoyed a banner year in 2008 making just its second-ever NCAA Tournament appearance.  Unfortunately, the Storm were stopped in its first-round tournament game by the No. 5 ranked Herons of William Smith College by a score of 2-0 on Saturday.

The Storm end its season with a 10-6-3 overall mark while the Herons advance to face the winner of Nazareth College and Endicott College this Sunday, Nov. 16 at Nazareth beginning at 1 pm.

Two second-half goals was all William Smith needed to knock off the Storm as they out-shot Keuka 21-2 in the game.

The Storm’s defense, led by North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Player of the Year Kelly Josephson (Jamestown, N.Y./Maple Grove) and sophomore goalie Ashley Vail (Rochester, N.Y./Churchville-Chili) limited the Herons to just 11 first-half shots and no goals.

William Smith attempted just ten shots in the second half with Keuka recoding its first two attempts.    The Storm’s Alyssa Hermenet (Williamson, N.Y./Williamson) and Jessica VanScoter (Canisteo, N.Y./Canisteo-Greenwood) kicked the Storm’s two shot attempts.  The Herons Katelyn Tyson’s shot in the 60th minute was the games first goal.  Kate Redmond assisted on the goal.  A little over three minutes later William Smith made it a 2-0 game on a goal from Sarah Tarantino.

Vail finished with eight saves in all, four in each half to give her 95 on the year.
