ITHACA, N.Y.The Ithaca women's soccer team (15-2-2) scored five goals in the second half and went on to a 6-0 win over Westfield State in an NCAA Division III Women’s Soccer first round game at Carp Wood Field.

Junior forward Winnie Adrien (Blair Academy [N.J.]/Selden) scored three goals for Ithaca. She opened the scoring in the ninth minute on an assist from Chelsey Feldman (Lynbrook/Hewlett) who passed from the right side. Adrien poked the shot past Westfield State goalkeeper Jess Pieciak (Palmer/Three Rivers, Mass.). Pieciak made six saves in 58 minutes of action and was replaced by Brittany Beeman (Cathedral/Springfield, Mass.) who allowed two goals and made five saves.

The second-half onslaught started in the 47th minute when Feldman scored on an assist from senior Nikki Rice (Sutton Memorial/Sutton, Mass.). Adrien scored her second of the game six and a half minutes later on a low shot from the penalty area crescent inside of the right post. Junior Emily Mogk (Bozeman/Bozeman, Montana) made the score 4-0 within a minute of Adrien’s goal on an assist from junior Liz Masucci (New Providence/New Providence, N.J.).

The best chance for Westfield State came in the 50th minute off a corner kick that fell to Jessie Tomich (Mt. Everett Regional/Alford, Mass.) but her shot went wide.

Adrien completed her hat trick in the 66th minute. It was her first three-goal game of the year. She had previously scored two goals in a game five times this year. She leads the team with 18 goals on the year.

Freshman midfielder Kristina Hendrick’s (Kiski Area/Apollo, Pa.) second-half assist on a goal by senior Lauren Koppel (Southside/Rockville Center) finished the scoring. It was the first career point for Hendrick.

Sophomore goalkeeper Alyssa Sotomayor (East Brunswick/East Brunswick, N.J.) played 74 minutes and didn’t have to make a save. Sophomore Jessica Platt (Monument Mountain/New Marlborough, Mass.) played the last 16 minutes and made two saves.
