Rangers Beat Augustana 3-0

Winona, Minn.: The Regis University women's soccer team defeated Augstana College (S.D.) 3-0 in the first round of the NCAA Central Region tournament on the campus of Winona State University. Regis will now take on two-seed Winona State on Sunday at 1 PM local time.

Regis (16-6) and Augustana playing against each other for the first time ever battled each other to a scoreless tie in the first half.  However, you could tell that the Rangers had the upper hand as they outshot the Vikings (13-6-1) 15-5.

With just 6:57 elapsed in the second half senior forward Carter Cornett found the back of the net for her 25th goal of the season.  Junior midfielder Lexi Tagen registered her seventh goal of the season, receiving the ball from freshman forward Emilie Eisman in the middle of the field she was able to maneuver the ball around a couple of Viking defenders for the goal. 

The Ranger defense were up to the task again and were able to get the ball back on offense and just 3:11 later freshman forward Jordan Miller scored her 17th goal of the season on a play very similar to the previous goal, this time on an assist from senior forward Cassie Cornett.

Freshman Rosie Campbell and senior Holly Redmond combined for the shutout, the Rangers fourth in five games.  Campbell collected six saves, while Redmond had one.  Regis had 16 shots on goal to just seven for the Vikings.

Regis now moves to the second round of the NCAA Tournament and will take on the host Winona State Warriors on Sunday.  Live stats of the match can be viewed by going to http://www.winona.edu/athletics/.
