CHESTNUT HILL, MA - Boston College senior defender Laura Georges has made the list of nominees for the FIFA Women's World Player of the Year in 2006. The winner of the award will be announced at the 16th FIFA World Player Gala at the Zurich Opera House on December 18, 2006.
Georges is one of just two French players on the short list of 20 women in contention for the title of FIFA Women's World Player of the Year in 2006. In 2005, Georges finished 12th in the voting for the award.
A native of Versailles, France, Georges is in her final season at Boston College and has helped the Eagles to a 9-5-1 overall record and a 3-3-1 ACC record. On Sunday, Georges scored her second career goal in a 3-0 victory over North Carolina State University. She scored on a header off a corner kick in the second half to give the Eagles a 3-0 lead.
The senior defender has played in seven games, missing a number of games this season due to National Team Duties. She has played in a total of 38 career games and has two goals and one assist at Boston College. Last season Georges was named to the All-ACC first-team, third-team All-America honors by the NSCAA and first-team All-America honors by SoccerBuzz Magazine.
