Cincinnati Heads To Dayton For Non-Conference Match

STORY LINES

 

The Bearcats continue their five game road swing on Tuesday, Sept. 9 when they face Dayton at Baujan Field for a 7:30 p.m. match. Dayton is currently ranked No. 5 in the Great Lakes Region of the NSCAA/adidas® Regional Rankings.

 

Sophomore forward Kendall Loggins (Naperville, Ill./Naperville North) scored the game-winning goal in the final minute of overtime at Miami (OH). Prior to the goal, Loggins provided an assist in the first half against the RedHawks. Loggins, who has come off the bench for UC, has five points this season (2G, 1A).


 

 

 

Junior forward Erin MacDonald (St. Catharine's, Ont./West Park Secondary) leads Cincinnati with seven points (2G, 3A). MacDonald notched a goal and provided the assist on UC's game-winning goal at Miami (OH) in overtime. After being named to the BIG EAST's second-team in 2007, she is currently tied for seventh in the BIG EAST Conference with seven points. 

 

Senior midfielder Jenn Johannigman (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) has five points this season (2G, 1A), scoring her first goal since her freshman campaign against Wright State (Aug. 24) and putting away the game-winning goal in the 2-1 victory over Michigan (8/29). She earned a BIG EAST Honor Roll selection for the week of Sept. 1.

 

Freshman forward Julie Morrissey (Abington, Mass./Tabor Academy) has been stellar in her first five games at UC. Morrissey knocked home the game-winning goal against Bowling Green (8/22) and she scored a goal and notched an assist at Miami (OH).

 

Defenders Kim Sykes (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore), Heather Neiser (Batavia, Ohio/St. Ursula) and Lindsey Noteboom (Hurst, Texas/Birdville) have a combined 155 games started  to anchor the back line for Cincinnati. Sykes (59 games) and Neiser (41) have started every match of their Cincinnati career and Noteboom (57) has started all but two games.

 

A QUICK LOOK AT the FLYERs

The Flyers are coached by Mike Tucker who is in his 14th season as a head coach at Dayton ... Dayton kicks off a three-game home stand with its game against UC and are currently 2-1-0 after earning a 3-2 road win at Michigan ... UC defeated Michigan 2-1 on Aug. 29 ... UD

 defeated nationally-ranked Indiana, 4-1, in its season opener ... junior Caitlin Proffitt leads the Flyers offensively with three goals and seven points ... senior Deana Waintraub is 3-0 in goal for the Flyers and owns a 1.55 GAA ... junior midfielder Colleen Gibson leads the Flyers with three assists this year.

The Bearcats are 12-4-1 against Dayton, with the most recent meeting in 2007 ending in a 4-3 UC victory ... the win last season snapped a two-game losing skid vs. Dayton ... the series dates back to 1983, when Cincinnati earned an 8-1 win, the most goals UC has scored in a match against the Flyers ... in 1994 UC played home and away against Dayton, winning both contests ... Erin MacDonald, Lindsey Noteboom, Kendall Loggins and Nicole Sanda each netted a goal in last season's victory ... the four goals scored against UD matched the most UC scored in a game last season.

First-year head coach Michelle Salmon named seniors Kim Sykes (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore) and Lindsey Noteboom (Hurst, Texas/Birdville) and junior Andrea Kaminski (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville) team captains for the 2008 season.

 

HOT HALF

Through five games, the Bearcats have scored eight of their 10 goals in the first half and 49 of their 90 shots this season have happened in the first period. In 2007, it took the Bearcats nine games to tally 90 shots.

 

RANKED

The last ranked opponent Cincinnati has played was West Virginia, on October 7, 2007. The Moutaineers were ranked No. 22 and defeated the Bearcats, 2-0, in Morgantown.
