8.29.08 - OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - The Lady Evangel soccer team dropped their season opener 4-1 against Lyon College in Batesville, Arkansas on Friday afternoon.

MACU gave up a quick goal in the first half when Lyon College sophomore, Amber Mathieson scored in the 8th minute of the game. The Lady Evangels held off the Pipers for the remaining 37 minutes of the first half.

Lyon College started off the second half with two quick goals. The first goal came in the 49th minute when sophomore, Katie Smith scored off of an assist by junior, Marisa Browne. Senior, Sarah Ruegger scored the unassisted second goal one minute later.

Freshman, Elizabeth Fuller scored the Pipers final goal of the afternoon in the 75th minute of play. Kaylynn Pursley scored the Lady Evangels only goal of the match in the 83rd minute.

MACU goalkeeper, Raven Benson had five saves on the day and the Lady Evangels had three shots on goal.

The Lady Evangels will play in the McPherson Tournament in McPherson, Kansas on September 5th and 6th.

MACU is a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics and the Sooner Athletic Conference.
