Women's Soccer Program Registers Another Solid Performance in Classroom

Twenty-three Rockets post 3.0 GPA or higher in Spring 2007

TOLEDO, OH - The University of Toledo women's soccer program produced another outstanding performance in the classroom under Head Coach Brad Evans with a 3.597 cumulative GPA in the recently completed Spring 2007 semester. The Rockets have posted team grade point averages above 3.0 in each of the last 12 grading periods.

Twenty-three Rockets posted a 3.0 GPA or higher led by Sarah Hazenfield, Nora Jereb, Ali Leak, Laura Mecklenborg, Rachel White and Nichole Williams with perfect 4.0 marks. In addition to these six student-athletes, 11 others (Andrea Burtscher, Candice Choquette, Diana Ginley, Megan Ginley, Pene Hughes, Elizabeth Marchand, Suzi Siwinski, Katie Strock, Annie Sullivan, Heather Wesley and Kirsty Wilson) earned a spot on the University's Dean's List (3.5 GPA or higher). Andrea Bigler, Julia Lyons, Andrea Plewes, Sarah Schulte, Shannon Slacer and Tara Witt also registered a 3.0 GPA or higher.
 

 

The soccer program's performance was a part of the athletic department's successful semester which saw UT student-athletes earn a collective grade point average of 3.020, the second-highest GPA for the department since it began compiling GPA data in 1993. The all-time high of 3.059 was set in the spring of 2006.

Additionally, a record 12 of UT's 15 sport programs had team GPA's of 3.0 or above (UT has 16 varsity sports but women's indoor and outdoor track count as one sport for academic purposes). The previous high was 11 in the spring of 2006. Women's volleyball had the highest team GPA (3.600), followed closely by women's soccer (3.597) and women's tennis (3.555).

Individually, 21 student-athletes earned perfect 4.0 GPA's this spring, while 110 individuals (over 34 percent) earned a spot on the Dean's List for by garnering at least a 3.50 GPA.

Sarah Hazenfield posted a perfect 4.0 GPA during the Spring 2007 semester.
