Erin Konheim, who helped MSU to a pair of NCAA Championship appearances as a player, was named as assistant coach at Loyola College in Baltimore.

BALTIMORE - Erin Konheim, who played on two NCAA Championship-qualifying teams at Michigan State, has been hired as an assistant women's soccer coach at Loyola College in Baltimore, Md. Konheim is joining the staff of the Greyhounds' new head coach, Katherine Vettori.

Konheim was a standout student-athlete at Michigan State, helping the Spartans compile a 48-28-7 record and garner two NCAA appearances during her four seasons in East Lansing.

A captain during her senior season in 2005, Konheim led Michigan State to a 12-6-5 record and the first NCAA Tournament win in program history. She concluded her Spartans' playing career as the school's career assists leader (23), and she finished seventh on the program's all-time points list (53). Konheim also worked as an Undergraduate Assistant Coach for Michigan State after her playing career concluded.

"I want to thank Katherine Vettori, the Loyola administration and community for accepting me into the Greyhound family. I believe that under Katherine's leadership, the program will continue to build on its successful tradition."

"She was an integral part of our success here both as a player and undergraduate assistant coach. This new position helps her continue to realize her goal of becoming a successful college soccer coach."

Konheim, who served as an assistant coach at Towson University last season. Last year, Konheim helped first-year Towson Head Coach Greg Paynter lead the Tigers to their first winning record (9-8-1) since the 2000 season.

She was responsible for organizing, developing and implementing technical training aspects of each practice. Konheim also contributed to all aspects of the program, including game planning, recruiting, scheduling, travel and fundraising.

After completing her collegiate eligibility, Konheim competed for the Michigan Hawks of the United States Soccer W-League. She served as a team captain and helped the Hawks to a 10-2-2 record and Midwest Division title.

As a prep player, Konheim earned All-State, All-District and All-League honors at West Bloomfield (Mich.) High School. She scored 90 goals and had 22 assists in four years for the Lakers and was a four-year member of the Michigan ODP State and Regional teams.

A three-year Academic All-Big Ten honoree (2003-2005), Konheim graduated from Michigan State with a bachelor of arts degree in elementary education in May 2006.
