The Set-Up... Sacred Heart will have their official home opener this weekend as Hamline University comes to the Wonderland of Ice for a weekend series. The Pioneers have played their first four NCAA games on the road and come into the weekend at 2-5-0.
History... This will be the first meeting between the Pioneers and the Pipers. Hamline is making the trip from St. Paul, Minnesota for the weekend series in Bridgeport.
Scouting the Pipers... Hamline started the season a perfect 4-0 before dropping both games of a weekend series to Concordia-Moorhead. The Pipers are led by senior Brianna Miller and sophomore Alli Miller. Alli Miller has nine points in only six games this season. Brianna Miller is the team’s leading goal scorer, lighting the lamp five times.
Up Next... Sacred Heart is starting a stretch in which they play five games in seven days. The Pioneers will travel to Worcester, MA to take on Holy Cross on Tuesday. The Pioneers then return home for another weekend series after Thanksgiving against Union.
Palazzo’s Passing... Nicole Palazzo recorded three assists in Sacred Heart’s 6-0 win over Nichols last weekend. The freshman is now tied with Lauren Fontaine for the team lead in points with five. Palazzo’s four helpers on the season make her the Pioneers assist leader. Palazzo’s lone goal on the season was a third period game winner in Maine.
Nagel Shutout Nichols... In only her sixth career start Amanda Nagel recorded her first career shutout over Nichols. Nagel made 26 saves, 12 in the second period, to seal the Pioneers second win of the season.
