Genevieve Turgeon Named ITECH Rookie of the Week

Freshman goaltender Genevieve Turgeon (Lac Beauport, Quebec) was named ITECH Rookie of the Week on Monday, October 24th. Turgeon earned her first career shutout in Saturday's 1-0 overtime thriller over UConn.

Turgeon turned away all 20 shots she faced in three regular periods and the overtime period. Junior defenseman Kelly Law (Markham, Ontario) iced the win for the Black Bears with the overtime goal.

With the win, Turgeon improves to 2-2-0 on the year. Turgeon has seen action in five games this season (221 minutes) and has a 2.43 goals against average with a .887 save percentage in all games. In the three conference games she has appeared in, Turgeon is 1-2-0, has a 2.97 goals against average and a .877 save percentage.

Prior to Maine, Turgeon played the last three seasons for Limoilou College with a 32-14-3 overall record, and was named a league all-star with a 9-5-0 record, 2.26 goals against average and a .917 save percentage in 2004-05. She was named a second team all-star in 2003-04 with a 13-7-1 record and a 1.56 goals against average and a .926 save percentage. In addition to her hockey attributes, Turgeon won two gold medals at the Canadian Championships in Tae Kwondo.

Turgeon is a business and marketing major and is the daughter of Elizabeth Turgeon and Jean Robitaille.
