"An allegation of inappropriate conduct has been raised involving [Mutch]," BC athletics director Gene DeFilippo said in a statement. "The university takes any such matters very seriously. As a result, the athletics department began an investigation of the alleged incident as soon as it was brought to our attention. Coach Mutch subsequently submitted his resignation, and his resignation was accepted."
Mutch became the program's third head coach in 2003 and just finished his fourth season at the Heights. He was named the Hockey East and New England coach of the year in 2007 as he led the Eagles to their first NCAA Women's Frozen Four appearance this season, and to their best record of 24-10-2. Boston College won back-to-back Beanpot titles in 2006 and 2007.
