Boston College women's ice hockey head coach Tom Mutch resigned Tuesday afternoon to pursue other career interests.

Mutch became the program's third head coach in 2003 and just finished his fourth season at the Heights. He was named the Hockey East and New England coach of the year in 2007 as he led the Eagles to their first NCAA Frozen Four appearance this season, and to their best record of 24-10-2. Boston College won back-to-back Beanpot titles in 2006 and 2007.

"Tom Mutch brought our women's ice hockey program to a new level and built a strong foundation for the future," Director of Athletics Gene DeFilippo says. "We wish him the best in his future endeavors."
