March 7, 2006

Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Boston College assistant coach Katie King played in her third and final Olympics this year in Torino, Italy, as she led Team USA to a 4-0 victory over Finland in the bronze medal game behind her second Olympic hat trick.

King is one of four three-time Olympians. She has played in 210 games for Team USA since first playing in the Three Nations Cup. She became the all-time leading scorer for Team USA after this Olympics tallying 146 goals and 119 assists in international competition. With the bronze medal this year, King has added to her gold medal from the 1998 Olympics and the silver that came in 2002.

"It has been an amazing experience for me," King said. "I've been involved with the team for about 10 years but now I look forward to being on the coaching side of hockey. Hopefully I will be able to help the girls on the team excel while also having some fun."

King was a member of the Women's National Team that won its first-ever gold medal at the 2005 International Ice Hockey Federation Women's World Championship in 2005. King also has competed in the Four Nations Cup, World Championship Tournaments and while on the National Team, King took hope nine consecutive silver medals in the World Championship (1993-2001).

King has returned behind the No. 9 Boston College's bench as an assistant for the Eagles. The 2005-06 Eagles have had a lot of firsts this season including their first Beanpot title, the program's first 20-win season, first Hockey East playoff game win as well as the team's first national rankings.

"I'm very excited for next year," King said. "Hopefully we will get a chance to play again in the NCAA's this year. We have a very good recruiting class coming in (for the 2006-07 season) and the team is doing so well this year. The next couple of years are exciting to think about and hopefully this freshman class will be able to do as well as the past freshmen classes have done for us."

The Eagles will wait for the selection of the field of eight for the NCAA tournament this year. The selection will be aired on March 12, on CSTV at 8:45 p.m.
