Burlington, VT-Nicole Corriero (Jr., Thornholl, ONT) had a pair of goals, Julie Chu (So., Fairfield, CT) added a goal and a two assists and the Crimson defense limited Vermont to just two shots at No. 1 Harvard handed the Catamounts a 6-0 loss on Saturday afternoon at Gutterson Fieldhouse. The shutout is the 11th of the year for the Crimson, breaking the school record of 10 set last season. Harvard improves to 23-3-1, 13-3-0 in the ECAC. Vermont drops to 6-24-2, 2-14-0.
The Crimson tacked on two goals in the first 3:15 of the game. Corriero tapped in her own rebound off of an assist from co-captain Lauren McAuliffe (Sr., North Reading, MA) at 2:12 of the first period for her 33rd goal of the season.
Chu gave Harvard a two-goal cushion just 1:03 later when she rifled a shot past Vermont netminder Kami Cote from the point when the Crimson was skating on the power play. Ashley Banfield (Jr., Toronto, ONT) and Katie Johnston (Fr., Stratford, CT) assisted on Chu's 11th goal of the season.
Harvard held a 28-2 edge in shots in the first period.
The Crimson added to its lead with a pair of goals in the second period, while its defense did not surrender a shot to the homestanding Catamounts, outshooting Vermont 27-0 for the period. Cote made 55 saves through the first 40 minutes of action.
Jennifer Raimondi (So., Langley, BC) blasted a slapshot into the upper left corner from the left faceoff dot at 7:17 for her 13th goal of the year. Chu brought the puck up the right side of the ice, drew the UVM defense and fed a wide open Raimondi to notch the assist.
Corriero scored her second goal of the game and her team-leading 11th power play goal of the season at 15:12 of the second period. Cailtlin Cahow (Fr., Branford, CT) carried the puck from the Crimson defensive zone up the left side of the ice and fed Corriero in front to set up the goal, and give Harvard a 4-0 lead heading into the second intermission.
Lindsay Weaver (Fr., Leominster, MA) recorded a goal and an assist in the third period. She gave the Crimson a 5-0 lead at 13:30 of the final period when she laced a slapshot through the Catamount defense and inside the left post from the point for the first goal of her collegiate career. Cahow and Chu assisted on the goal.
Jennifer Sifers (Fr., Stratford, CT) provided the final 6-0 margin when she was able to cash in on a Corriero pass from behind the net at 14:51. Weaver also assisted on the goal.
Harvard fired a total of 101 shots in the game, including 72 on goal. Vermont did register any shots in the second period, and no shots on goal in the third period. The Crimson was 2-for-7 on the power play, the Catamounts were 0-for-4.
Emily Vitt (Fr., Kenilworth, IL) made two saves to improve to 7-0-0 on the season. Kote finished with 58. Katie Nichols came on in relief after the Sifers goal, making seven saves to close out the game.
Harvard will return to Bright Hockey Center for the final two games of the regular season. The Crimson will host Yale on Saturday at 2 p.m. and Princeton on Sunday at 2 p.m.
Jennifer Sifers scored Harvard's sixth goal in the 6-0 win over Vermont
