New Haven, CT - Shivon Zilis made 22 saves to post her second shutout in her second collegiate start as Yale beat Cornell 3-0 Saturday afternoon at Lynah Rink. The win improves Yale's record to 12-13-1 (10-6-1 ECACHL, 4th), tying the school record for victories that was set in 1985-86 and tied last year. Helen Resor scored two of Yale's goals, including an empty-netter, and Jenna Spring had the other.
After a scoreless first period that included five penalties, Resor put Yale ahead off assists from Christina Sharun and Kelsey Johnson at 8:32 of the second. No penalties were called on either team in that frame, but when the Big Red's Pearle Nerenberg was whistled for tripping at 6:50 of the third the Bulldogs took advantage. Spring notched her 11th goal of the season, tying Erin Duggan for the team lead, off assists from Kristin Savard and Deena Caplette.

With that bit of breathing room Zilis took care of the rest, making nine saves in the third to thwart any comeback hopes. Cornell had seen a two-goal lead of its own slip away frustratingly on two extra-attacker Princeton goals in the game's final two minutes Friday night (the Tigers won 6-5 in overtime). This time Yale got an insurance marker at 19:28 when Resor deposited one in the empty net, assisted by Natalie Babony.
The two points allow the fourth-place Bulldogs to keep pace with each of the three teams ahead of them in the standings, as Harvard, Dartmouth and St. Lawrence all won. Yale travels to No. 3 Dartmouth and Vermont next weekend before hosting No. 9 Princeton in the regular-season finale Wed. Feb. 23.
