Sophomore Josefine Sundh carded a career-low round of 70 to lead WCU in first round at Draper Valley Intercollegiate.

Fort Chiswell, Va. - With two golfers inside the top five, Western Carolina carded an opening round 293 as a team on Monday to stand in second place, three strokes behind first-day leading Elon, entering Tuesday's final round at the 2008 Draper Valley Intercollegiate at the Draper Valley Golf Club.
Sophomore Josefine Sundh fired a career-low round of two-under, 70, to lead the Catamounts, one stroke ahead of her junior countryman, Desiree Karlsson, who shot one-under, 71, to stand in a two-way tie for fifth entering Tuesday's final round.
Also for the Catamounts, freshman Blaire Minter - competing in her first-ever collegiate tournament - shot a two-over, 74, to end the first day tied for 13th. Rounding out Western's five scorers were junior Elin Mickelsson and freshman Rachel Nelson, both tied for 34th at six-over, 78.
Behind the top two, Elon and WCU, are Charleston Southern in third, five strokes in arrears, followed by Gardner-Webb (299) and Tennessee Tech (300), rounding out the top five.
Elon's Danielle Mills shot a four-under, 68, on Monday to lead the 86-golfer field. Ashley Spangler of Tennessee Tech is in second, one stroke back, with Sundh tied with Charleston Southern's Olivia Higgins, both with opening round scores of 70.
