FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Colorado State women’s golf team opened the 2008-09 season on Monday, hosting the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic at the Ptarmigan Country Club. Sophomore Cecilia Edlund leads Colorado State, as the Rams sit in 10th place entering the final round.
The Rams opened the tournament with an 11-over-par 299 and shaved four strokes in the second round to sit at 18-over-par through 36 holes.
Edlund (74-73—147) tallied four birdies on the day to pace the Rams, one stroke ahead of teammate Kasey Claussen, who shot identical rounds of 74 to open her season. Senior Stefanie Ferguson bounced back from an opening-round 77 to shoot a 74 in the second round and move into a tie for 48th overall.
Defending champion, California , is in position to repeat, firing a 19-under-par 557 to lead the 19-team field. Colorado sits within striking distance of the Golden Bears at 14-under. Cal’s Shannon Yocum and CU’s Emily Childs are tied atop the individual leader board at 6-under, 138.
