GREELEY, Colo. - University of Northern Colorado senior golfer Emily Russell was named the Division I Independent Women's Co-Golfer of the Year on Wednesday while sophomore teammate Meagan Dahlberg earned first-team All-Independent honors as well after the duo produced fantastic seasons in the program's first year of Division I golf.

The All-American Russell capped one of the most outstanding careers in the program's history in 2003-04 by breaking the single season scoring average record (77.5) and by finishing in the top 10 in seven of the eight tournaments in which she competed. She won the medalist titles at each the UMKC Kenneth Smith Classic and Grand Canyon Invitational during her senior season. Russell finished third at the 2003 NCAA Division II Championships her junior year and in her career finished in the top 10 in an amazing 31 of 40 total tournaments.

Dahlberg was second on the Bears' squad with a 80.2 scoring average, as she had three top 10 and six top 20 finishes during her second collegiate season. Dahlberg successfully defended her title at the UNC Bear Spring Invitational by setting the event record for total score (144, Even) and also setting her career scoring round low (70).

Russell shared Player of the Year honors with Stefanie Maynard of Texas Pan-American. In all, seven golfers were named to the All-Independent squad. Division I Independent schools that sponsor women's golf include Augusta State, Northern Colorado, Savannah State, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Texas-Pan American.
