Two Tar Heels To Play In U.S. Amateur Women's Amateur

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Katie Miller and Lauren Hunt, both members of the University of North Carolina women's golf team, will be among the 156 participants at the 2006 U.S. Women's Amateur which begins Monday at the Witch Hollow Course at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club in North Plains, Ore.

Miller, a rising senior for the Tar Heels from Jeannette, Pa., was an All-Atlantic Coast Conference performer in 2005 while Hunt, a rising sophomore from Little River, S.C., recently won the 2006 Carolinas Women's Match Play Championship. In addition, Ann Laney, a rising junior from Charlotte, N.C., is an alternate for the prestigious Amateur.

Stroke play will take place on Monday and Tuesday and then the field will be cut to the low 64 scorers who will advance on to match play which begins on Wednesday and continues through Sunday. Hunt tees off at 8:36 a.m. PDT on Monday while Miller tees off at 1:58 p.m. PDT. Both players will start off the first tee.
